Designer carpet on the floor: a new look at the design of the room
For many centuries, people have been using carpets to give comfort and warming to a room. If from the 18th to the beginning of the 20th century, only upper-class people could afford carpets, now in any textile, furniture or specialty store everyone can afford such a warm accessory.
You should not assume that the carpet is a decoration of the past century, because modern designs of soft flooring are not at all like annoying Soviet ones with tassels and rhombuses. Now you can choose a carpet for every taste, with any pile and pattern, as well as pick up interesting colors and non-standard materials.
“Carpet fashion” for several decades has undergone a minimum of changes: yes, it develops in a spiral, then bringing carpets to the background, advising to replace the laminate or parquet, then the first, referring to the favorite pile in design.
Most modern designers claim that the carpet gives the room a zest, interior completeness and creates additional comfort.
No matter how expensive and noble the parquet is, without a carpet the room looks empty, cold and uncomfortable. Currently, carpets have different colors, texture, shape and can dilute the most boring interior, becoming a bright spot in it. Designers removed all the “taboos” from carpets and if before the carpet was considered a sign of sovietism, peasant and bad taste, now it is a full-fledged “member” of the stylish element (unless, of course, this carpet originated from the USSR, eaten by moths).
But do not forget to take into account the design of the room where you select the carpet: it should not cause “cognitive dissonance”. So for a classic interior, a monochromatic carpet of warm colors or with an inconspicuous pattern (floral ornament, arabesque, baroque elements, stripes) would be ideal.
In the room of retro-style, country style and Scandinavian, a shabby-chic style carpet will be appropriate. In the modern, a covering with geometric and abstract figures will look good. For ethno-style fit carpet with African motifs of beige and brown colors, the color of baked clay and sand.
Catchy colors should be used with care, as they will stand out from the general interior.
Let’s say right away – this is not a simple matter. But you can simplify your task by determining for which particular room it is selected. And we made a mini-guide on the carpets for each individual room …
Living room. For this room, there are practically no restrictions in the choice of carpet, the main rule is the combination with the rest of the room design.
Some people like neutral options that do not stand out from the general background, others like accent carpeting. It is better to give preference to the carpet for the living room with a low pile, resistant to abrasion and wiping, pay attention to the safety of materials.
A light-colored solid carpet will be a universal option for any design.
Bedroom. Spectacular carpets with thick and long nap will be a wonderful warm accessory for the room where you spend the night. Prefer monotonous pastel shades, so as not to irritate the eyes.
To whom pastel colors are not interesting and who require a drive, contrasting coatings are ideal (they look especially stylish against the background of the calm colors of the furniture).
If you pick up a carpet with a diagonal pattern, you can visually expand the space. The combinations of several carpets of different sizes, colors and textures look stylish: for example, you can lay a plain carpet and scatter several bright carpets of unusual shapes and different sizes.
Do not combine active and bright patterns on the wallpaper with similar to carpets – it is not just not beautiful, it is very hard to read.
Children’s The main criterion for the choice of carpet in the nursery – the safety of materials. The second most important is drawing. The length of the pile is also important – it will be necessary to carry out cleaning more often in the children’s room, because the kids are constantly littering, something is spilled, so a carpet with a short pile will be appropriate.
Children are not interested in boring monophonic not bright carpets, give them cartoon characters, animal and anthropomorphic animals, colorful landscapes, fabulous cities and even games (a carpet with classics, as an option). A colorful geometric print on a baby carpet does not look bad either.
