Greek style in the interior
The history of the Greek, or rather, the ancient Greek style in the interior and architecture dates back 3 thousand years ago. In those days, the ancient Greeks firmly linked their lives with mythology. They worshiped their gods of Olympus, believed in the existence of Hercules and the Minotaur. This is reflected in the creation of the Greek style.
Majestic columns, images of gods, horrific animals, torso of titans and over people, luxury of decoration of temples and palaces – this is what showed all the power of ancient Greece.
Over time, ancient Rome and eastern countries greatly influenced the architectural and interior styles. The interior in the Greek style has become more restrained.
The distinctive features of the Greek style in the interior
Speaking about the Greek style in the interior, it should first of all be noted that its main distinguishing feature is the lack of luxury in the design of walls, ceilings, and in the manufacture and design of furniture. This is a special distinctive detail from the style of ancient Rome.
The Greek style is manifested in the restrained light colors of the interior decoration of walls, decorative objects and furniture. But at the same time, the use of marble, artfully painted patterns on the windows and walls reflects all the power and strength of the ancient Greek state.
When creating an interior in this style, cold shades are used – all natural colors. It is from pale yellow to the brightest sun, emerald green, all shades of blue and green. Only natural materials are used.
Ceilings, walls and floors
To achieve naturalness, simplicity and at the same time the grace and grandeur of the Greek style, the walls are plastered, and then covered with various patterns. Light wall can be decorated with inserts of soft red tones or an ornament of geometric shapes and broken lines. Fresco will also be indispensable in the design.
The ceiling is usually created in the same color scheme with the walls (light bed colors), but can often be decorated with embossed images of scenes of ancient battles, as well as images of gods and mythical creatures.
The grace in the design of the floor in the Greek style – is primarily the use of small porcelain tiles when creating various compositions of porcelain, seashells and pebbles. The light color scheme of both the ceiling and the floor is unchanged.
Furniture and furnishings
The furniture is simple in shape and color. It was trimmed with bronze, silver and gold. Furniture items were benches, sofas, armchairs, beds with beautiful headboards, low trapezoid tables with legs in the form of paws of wild animals. Velvet and natural leather in the manufacture of furniture is not used. It was made from good-quality trees and soft natural fabrics.
As for the interior decoration items, in the Greek style various laughing masks were used to decorate the walls, bronze handles on the doors in the form of the head of a wild animal (usually a lion), with a ring in the mouth. And of course large floor vases with various patterns and decorations. Various symbolic statues or sculptures. In the interior design in the Greek style very often use its main element – the columns.
